Water and energy are critical resources for sustainable and inclusive development as recognized by the Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all) and 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all) respectively. Harnessing technology and innovation to achieve these goals requires inclusive policies that ensures no one is left behind. For this purpose, concerted efforts are needed to develop and adopt inclusive policies, strategies and best practices by the member States. Towards this objective, the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology, of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is jointly organizing this international conference with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Thailand, and Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research. The high-level conference will provide a platform for policy makers and practitioners for sharing experiences and best practices to promote transfer and adoption of technologies in the water and energy sectors among countries in the Asia Pacific region. The sessions will deliberate on the challenges, opportunities, policy interventions and strategies for promoting the development, deployment, accessibility, and affordability of innovative technologies in the water and energy sectors in countries in the Asia Pacific region. Senior Government officials, representatives of international organizations, sector experts from across Asia and the Pacific as well as senior representatives from the private sector in Thailand are expected to participate and contribute to the deliberations. The recommendations made at the conference will be presented at the 14th Session of the Governing Council session on 28-29 November 2018.
