Tea Catechins as Anti-aging Compounds

The present invention relates to the preparation of consumable composition for oral administration that contains tea catechins. The composition prepared by the process of this invention is useful in providing controlled release of catechins contained therein.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, consumable composition containing tea catechins dispersed therein is provided.
In another embodiment of the invention, the consumable composition may be in form of tablets, pills, capsules, semisolids, sustained release formulations, solutions, suspensions, syrups or any other appropriate compositions and preferably is in capsule form.
In yet another embodiment of the invention, the capsule is prepared using sodium alginate.
In still another embodiment of the invention, the use of flavonoid group of compounds from tea extracts- the catechins, as antiaging agent is provided.

In another embodiment of the invention, the catechins from the tea extracts with antiaging effect may include epigallectocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallectocatechin (EGC), epicatechingallate (ECG), epicatechin (EC).
In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the catechins from the tea extracts causes decrease of Malondialdehyde (MDA). Increase in malondialdehyde by lipid peroxidation is a function of human aging.

In still another embodiment of the invention, the catechins from the tea extracts causes increase of reduced glutathione (GSH). Decrease of reduced glutathione (GSH), an antioxidant is a function of human age.

The present invention provides consumable composition for oral administration containing tea catechins. The composition prepared by the process of this invention is useful in providing controlled release of catechins contained therein.
