Gyro Wave Gen
The GyroGen is unique among all other proposed wave energy devices, in that it makes use of an active (i.e. energy using) device as the key to its efficient, scalable and adaptive functioning. Among the many distinct advantages of this technology, is its ability to completely isolate the gyroscopic transducer/generator set and all moving parts, from the harsh ocean environment. Some additional advantages of the technology are that it is easy to scale, it is highly modular, it is very easy to move and maintain, it is very robust and survivable, and it can be manufactured and deployed at relatively low cost (compared with wind turbines). Also, because the technology can be mounted on an above-water or boat-like (and even drivable) ocean going structure, any potentially complex permitting issues should be substantially mitigated, if not eliminated. The technology is currently undergoing extensive development and testing, and additional patents are being sought.
