Detection and Analysis of Heavy Metals in the Industrial Effluents
The present technology relates to a device and method for detecting and also measuring the concentration of copper in an industrial effluent. This device comprises of an ion selective electrode (ISE) coupled to immobilize Bacillus sphaericus strain characterized in producing Urease on its one end and to a voltage measuring device which is calibrated to indicate the concentration of the heavy metal in the solvent at its other end. Another object of this technology is to provide the method of detection and analysis of heavy metal present in the industrial effluents by using the above mentioned device. The method of detection of heavy metal comprising following steps a) Measuring the potential difference developed during uninhibited hydrolysis of pure 0.03M urea solution in a phosphate buffer saline (PBS) at a pH of 7.5 and temperature of 25°C using the aforesaid device; b) Measuring the potential difference developed during inhibited hydrolysis of 0.03M urea solution containing the sample solvent in a phosphate buffer saline (PBS) at a pH of 7.5 and temperature of 25°C using said device; c) Calculating the percentage inhibition and calibrating the same to indicate the concentration of the copper ion present in the solution. The above mentioned process is used when solvent or industrial effluents of single cation type while in case of multi-cation type pretreatment is required to remove the cations other than copper.
