The Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in partnership with the Ministry of Innovative Development, Republic of Uzbekistan

The Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in partnership with the Ministry of Innovative Development, Republic of Uzbekistan, organised the Regional Workshop on Innovative Strategies for Research Commercialization and Technology Transfer on 24 November 2021. The event was held in conjunction with the International Week of Innovative Ideas ‘InnoWeek.Uz-2021’ from 22 to 27 November, 2021.

The Regional Workshop brought together international and national experts to deliberate on key challenges, opportunities, strategies and good practices that are critical for technology transfer and commercialization. The workshop assessed new and emerging policy frameworks and tools, issues related to intellectual property (IP) management and technology licensing, and regional collaboration networks and platforms for technology transfer and commercialization. Over 170 participants attended the workshop which included Policymakers, Government officials, managers of technology licensing/transfer offices and technology-based enterprises, technology intermediaries, universities, and private sector representatives from the Asia-Pacific region.

The programme comprised technical presentations and knowledge sharing sessions on: (a) Enabling mechanisms to promote technology transfer and commercialization; and (b) Strategies to promote regional cooperation for technology transfer and commercialization.

The workshop increased the knowledge and understanding of policymakers on enabling mechanisms such as policy interventions, regulatory frameworks, financing tools, and IP management tools for successful technology transfer and commercialization; enhanced the understanding of stakeholders on strategies to promote government-industry-academia collaboration; and promoted regional cooperation for facilitating cross-border technology transfer.
