PathPal is an offline, edge-AI assistive device that combines computer vision, OCR, currency recognition and multidirectional obstacle detection to provide real-time audio and haptic support for safer, more independent mobility and access to printed information.
PathPal is an AI-powered assistive device developed by SmartEye3i Technologies Pvt. Ltd. to support the mobility, navigation and access to information of visually impaired users. It combines camera-based computer vision, offline edge-AI processing, optical character recognition, handwriting support, currency recognition and multidirectional ultrasonic obstacle sensing.
The device detects hazards and other environmental information in real time and communicates results through multilingual audio feedback and differentiated vibration alerts. Its offline operation is intended to support use in crowded streets, markets and locations with limited internet connectivity. The technology integrates multiple assistive functions in a compact, rechargeable system rather than requiring separate single-purpose devices.
According to the provider, PathPal has undergone more than 600 user interactions and field validations with visually impaired users, including pilots and paid pilots involving blind schools, NGOs and accessibility organizations. The provider also reports receiving an initial international order from Singapore and exporting PathPal to Geneva, Switzerland.
