A Superior System for Catheter Needle Placement
The technology proposes a device which can precisely place catheters into targeted anatomical feature, such as a vein, an artery, or a tumor using ultrasonic imaging for guidance. This device guides the placement of the catheter needle very accurately, replacing manual needle placement methods with an ultrasonic probe, a mechanical firing mechanism that both holds the catheter needle and deploys it into the target, and a miniature imaging/aiming display - integrated to form a single handheld system. The device is connected to an external ultrasound machine that provides the target imaging on the device's display panel. The display also serves as a graphical user interface to enable both accurate alignment and depth/penetration information to the target. The catheter needle is deployed by a stored energy mechanism. The image stability can be monitored to prevent deployment should unexpected dynamic conditions arise. The device also includes sensors to verify the accurate placement of the catheter.
