A Novel Composition for Prevention & Treatment of Filariasis
The present invention relates to the synthesis of macrofilaricidal substituted naphthalenediones based upon the lead molecule (5-hydroxy-2-methyl-l, 4-naphthalenedione) obtained from the indigenous medicinal plant Plumbago indica/rosea, which is macrofilaricidally potent. The 5-hydroxy-2-methyl-l,4- naphthalenedione derivatives represented by substituents and C3 positions such as halo, alkyl, aryl, amino, alkylamino, arylamino, alkoxy, aryloxy, amido, carboxylic acid or ester having 1 to 10 carbons. It also describes the process for extraction of macrofilaricidal composition form medicinal plants having one or more derivatives. The extraction of the derivatives is carried out using different alcohol type. A comparative study for the technology was done with DEC which suggest worth of the derivatives, which is 200 times more effective then DEC.
